What is leverage (margin) trading?

Trading with leverage (also known as margin trading) means trading securities by putting down only a percentage of the total value of the position.

For example, a trade with a deposited amount of $1,000 and a leverage of x10 results in an exposure of $10,000. The margin is $1,000, which equals 10%.

Leveraged trading can give you access to positions of a higher value than the funds in your account. This means that both profits and losses are magnified, making leveraged trading a high-risk endeavour.

To view and change your current leverage for each asset class in the app settings:

  1. Go to Home.
  2. Tap the Switch button at the top of the screen, next to the account name.
  3. Select the Live or Demo tab.
  4. Tap the account you want to change the leverage for.
  5. Go to Trade options > CFD Leverage.

To set the leverage for a single order:

  1. Make sure one-tap trading is off.
  2. Tap the market you want to trade.
  3. Tap the round settings button under Buy/Sell, to the right of the contract size.
  4. Choose your leverage on the next screen.
  5. Tap Buy or Sell, depending on the direction of your trade, to place it.

Please note that setting leverage for a single order is not available on demo accounts.
